March 13, 2025 A New Beginning

 My first foray into blogging was titled My Life as Supermom. It helped me navigate so many life events for almost 3 years. The negative political environment left such a profoundly rotten taste in my mouth on Facebook that I took that necessary step to protect my mental health. You'll hear a lot about mental health-related topics here.

Recently, in an effort to clear out our shop, Randy came across the book I'd printed of those three years. It brought back so many memories and reasons for me to pick it up again. I'd like to think I'll be smarter and more discerning in my Facebook dealings. I had to rejoin to be able to publish this humble tome. So, here I am!

It was 2012 when I ended my writing, so there is much to revisit...in small increments, of course.

For those of you new here, I'm sure I need to introduce myself. My name is Nancy and I'm a mom of 3, and a Gramzie of 3 boys. Randy and I have been married for almost 49 years, beginning our lifetime romance when I was 17 and he was 19. We were together, with one brief breakup, for almost 4 years before we got married. To say we have weathered a lot together would be a gross understatement and too much to reimagine right now. Just settle with knowing nothing came easy!

We adopted our daughter in 1983, bringing her home at 4 days old. We were content with the possibility of being parents of an only child when the impossible happened. Again, too many details to run through, but suffice to say, we had two boys of our own, in 1989 and 1991. Yes, after that, I did feel like Supermom, even though it was a moniker my youngest gave me when he was in junior high.

The Cliff's Notes version of the span of these 49 years brings us to me navigating my last year in my 60's, which I have promised myself and my family that I would absolutely kick in the ass. So far, so good! Oh and, I'm known for being somewhat colorful in my speech, if that offends you. Just so you know.    

 There it is, my maiden post for the new title.

My family faces something we knew would happen one day, and dreaded; the beginning of losing siblings. This loss is of the second in our birth order, one of only three sisters amidst the horde of boys. The outpouring of caring and sympathy has been frankly overwhelming and very much appreciated.  There is one thing I feel compelled to address and clear the air. April 1, 2025 Nobody's Fool

  April is here. Now may the warm spring days be more and the cold snowy ones a fond memory. There is no need for a drumroll for this topic today. I quit drinking. I have not counted the days, but it's been about a year and a half since. Instead of calling it a recovery, I feel it's better for me to refer to it as a significant life change. Unlike many, I did not have a dramatic event that forced this change. There was no major health problem, behavior faux pas, criminal slip, or intervention. I simply...quit. It was after the fact that I found how positively my life would be impacted. Alcohol had always been a part of my life, from the days Dad would give me a "snort" of his icy beer after work, to being of legal age at 18, always present at every celebration, to becoming a crutch during Covid. April 19, 2025 I Forgive You, I Forgive Me

This is an extremely difficult and painful post, but a necessary part of my personal acceptance and healing. I've had a caring professional encourage me to do so, but I've put it off for too long. First of all, I am not targeting any one person. My use of "you" is a general term. I do take responsibility for letting them make me feel the way I did, and it's taken me so long to come to terms with being happy to just be me, warts and all. So, here goes... I forgive you for making me grow up too fast. Being the firstborn seemed to give so many license to make me more independent that I was truly ready to handle. I grew to be someone who never wanted to depend on anyone but myself. It caused me to push people away, instead of accepting help when it was offered, or affection I didn't feel I deserved.
