April 6, 2025 Coping and Basketball
It's been a week. Nothing outstanding, just days in a row with no sun. It sucks any hope of joy from each day like that. In spite of taking supplemental Vitamin D, it still bothers me. A lot.
A very positive result of no longer consuming alcohol is that my coping mechanism is much more effective. As my brain cleared, I realized I wasn't "coping" with anything when I fell into my cup; it was just plain avoidance. Now, my no-booze decision will not be the topic regularly, I promise.
Getting more to the point is coping skills. How do you cope? I'm talking life things, friend things, home things...you get it.
I already confessed to having the upheaval in my house is getting to me, and I can't just ignore it. Add on dreary days and that's a recipe for finding your mind straying to a sad place.
Yesterday, I'd had enough of the pity party. It was a nice day, just windy and cold. Not ideal for working outside, my usual go-to.
Randy's had to live with my grumpy self, poor guy. So, it was his idea to begin tearing up the laminate flooring in the kitchen. Not a hard job, just messy. Lots of memories came back, seeing the old vinyl exposed.
We cleaned out the dryer vent, clear to the outside. Good job to have done, with a new vent collar and tubing inside, along with new outlet covers to replace the ones marred by old paint. I know that no one will see behind the appliances, but I'll have the satisfaction of knowing it's clean.
Following the clean-up, we loaded up to return a light, make a Goodwill drop, buy food for the critters and Bo, and groceries. It was a fulfilling afternoon.
Today involved feeding the critters, baking a batch of cookies, prepping overnight oats for the week, cleaning berries, and sliding a beef roast into the oven. And, most importantly, the sun is out.
Now we sit back, with a zero beer in hand to watch the NCAA Women's final game. After watching Duke in men's play last night, in spite of having Cooper Flagg, I no longer think that UConn winning is a foregone conclusion, even with Buckets in charge. Dawn Staley is more than capable of leading her women to that honor. We will see!
Thanks for stopping by. ☘
