August 31, 2025 Where Did It Go???
I know I can't be alone in feeling like summer has whizzed by at an unprecedented pace this year, and fall is not far from making an appearance. I am a huge fan of fall, so its arrival is always welcome, along with the cooler temps.
They, whomever "they" are, always say that time goes by faster for those occupied with life and busy. I can attest to that. I don't remember a year where we have been so consumed with things that we have almost lost an entire season!
I got to watch the world wake up again this morning, up around 5 bells. Funny how it always seems to happen on a Sunday, but I do enjoy it. Understand that I'm not a very early riser, as a rule. My watch goes off at 6 a.m. but it's not unusual for me to drift off for another 30 or so. At any rate, I'm not so besotted with the world waking up that I'll get up that early all the time!
There are just random things in my head today. The first is to say one of my favorite authors is John Grisham. He's not #1 but he is up there in the top 10, I'd say. What brings that about is I watched A Time to Kill this morning on Prime. I had already read the book when the movie came out and I was struck by how closely it followed the book. Even knowing how it plays out, I'm still so moved by it every time. In my opinion, it's the best of Grisham's work, and I've read them all.
I've missed football. Grand 1 made the decision not to play this year, but we have Grand 2 excited about his 8th grade season. The Hawkeyes had a successful season opener, as well as the Cyclones, making Iowa well represented this weekend. I much prefer college ball over the NFL, but do get more into it about playoff time. For now, my interest is split between football and the Fever/WNBA. Missing Caitlin and several of her teammates as they heal, but so excited for the rest of the team as they keep pushing through. Also, I finally got to see Ilona Maher play rugby as a member of the American Eagles at the Rugby World Cup! She is impressive!
Having both our sons home this month was a bonus, even if they weren't here at the same time. They and their friends used to bring so much energy into our lives, and I miss them and vibe. It's wonderful to see both happy with their lives.
I need to put a pin in this for now, but I do want to share that we've booked a trip for next fall, this time in country. All that can wait for now.
Put those mums out! ☘
