October 1, 2025. Meet Nancy

This is not about me. If you saw my post with a picture of Nancy, you've come to the right place. With Fall officially here, it's time to introduce you to her. She has quite a story!

Fall is my season. I'm a fall baby. I love the weather, especially when it gets a good freeze that gets rid of those tiny obnoxious no-see-ums.

My mom, Mary Ann, used to produce some of the most incredible craft items, from wooden painted jewelry to spectacular stuffed dolls. I'll show you my Santa when the time comes. But for now, you need to get to know Nancy.

I had the advantage of having a November birthday. This particular year, Mary Ann had brought this wooden witch to life. There were several made, special order of course. One particular day, a potential customer stopped by the house to view some of the items Mary Ann had available. The witch was standing in the living room, a gift for me. When the customer commented on how she'd like to have it, Mary Ann told her it was Nancy's. The woman whirled around, exclaiming, "You named your witch Nancy?!".  That is how she got her name; it just stuck.

Was I insulted? Oh, no! I loved it. So that is how Nancy came to be mine.

Now, she was not a really frail gal, but with small boys and the ever-present dog, she had her share of getting knocked down, resulting in her losing her head. Often.

We glued her repeatedly. it held for a while. Then the decision had to be made that she had to have a serious cervical repair.

The first time the bracket was being attached, a call came from a friend, answered by one of the kids, asking what their dad was doing. Now remember, they were pretty young. Said child responded that he was in the living room, screwing Nancy. That got to be a family joke because Nancy got screwed a lot.

At some point, it got hard to have to get her out and she was retired to a container, with her head and hat detached.

I'm in another cleaning/organizing frenzy, which lead me to the garage cabinet that housed the decor containers. I knew there were some Halloween things that had outlived their usefulness, and in culling those out, I found Nancy. Still at the bottom, head and hat still detached.

I brought her out, fixed her hair, and looked her over. I hesitated to ask Randy to screw her again, so decided instead to do it myself. I've never screwed anyone in my life but I think I did.a great job on her.

So now she's properly displayed, hopefully in a safe spot. I can't have her losing her head again!

And that's her story. ☘
