October 5, 2025 Self Care
There is so much information out there about self care. What I've found is that one thing may work for one, but not the other. It's a more matter of finding what works for you. This post is probably the most inane of what you might read today. I just feel the need to blather a bit.
In my opinion, if it requires a lot of money to purchase services, products, gadgets, equipment, and whatever, that can be more of a deterrent than a benefit. We all have that guilty pleasure in which we indulge, yes? For example, I'm a clothes horse. This blog is also a form of self care for me.
It isn't as though I blow buckets of cash into my wardrobe, but I do invest in that which makes me comfortable and fits well. I don't claim to be a fashion maven; I just know what I like and try hard to make sure it's flattering, if nothing else.
During my last few years of purging and organizing, I've actually been more cognizant of not stuffing my closets and drawers with just anything that catches my fancy. I actually adopted the one in/one out habit, and only have a set amount of hangers to keep me accountable. I found that with less to complicate getting dressed, I wear more of what I truly love. Point of fact, if I find a sweater that fits especially well, for example, I've been known to buy it in more than one color, if available.
I also don't hang onto anything that is not repairable, does not fit well, or hasn't seen the outside of the closet for a couple of years. The better items get consigned, while the others are donated. And yes, occasionally there are those few that are not decent enough for either and get thrown away. I go through things as the seasons change, finding that if I stay on top of it, it remains simple.
Wearing what makes me feel good is a form of self care. It also can make me a little uncomfortable when someone stops and demands to know why I'm "dressed up". I never wear anything in an effort to impress anyone. I'm the least impressive of anyone I know. I hate having attention drawn to me; it's all part of the social anxiety with which I've been gifted.
Finding a skin care line I like has been a godsend. Being able to use just what I need beats having a multiple product routine and it's so much easier to adhere to just a few steps. I do my own nails, so an occasional new color is always good. I quit coloring/highlighting my hair but do get regular trims. I also look forward to my teeth cleanings, hard as that may be to believe. I even enjoy my yearly physical because the women in the clinic make it such a joy to be cared for. That is something pretty special!
Please take care of YOU, in whatever fashion suits you. ☘
