December 8, 2025 Mayhem

Okay, mayhem may be a bit dramatic.

We were up at 4:30 a.m. yesterday morning to deal with the snow before the Kiwanis breakfast. Then, I stayed up late, silly me, to watch the end of Chiefs' game. Not a stellar ending to Sunday. Did I nap? No. Did I simply forego the game? Also, no.

I'm paying for it today, as those of the same age can testify that we just don't rebound as in days of yore.  Being wakened by a needy dog, clawing at the bed wasn't on my list of favorite things.  Randy made my favorite flavored coffee, typically reserved for Sunday, so that smoothed out a few rough edges.

Per usual, I had a pretty good idea of what I hoped to accomplish today, mainly deep cleaning the kitchen so I could begin the cookie/bread marathon, as well as vacuuming the living room furniture after a weekend of the dog and teens. This is when God decided to get some laughs in.

As I'm fond of referring to the mouse and his cookie, things escalated quickly, to the point that as of right now, 1:38 p.m., I am still in my pajamas and ponytail, trying to get my back to stop aching in Randy's recliner.

Beginning in the living room, I gathered blankets to wash, which led to pulling the cushions from the sectional to vacuum, along with Randy's recliner (a virtual crumb trap), and my swivel chair (always decorated with my personal "tinsel"). Blankets were gathered to wash.

I got distracted enough and ended up in clearing the kitchen and, oh my God, you don't want to hear every tiny detail! The long and short of it is, we now have what can be termed a senior dog, who happily peed on the carpet, THEN swiped the door to go out.

Cleaning that spot up led to me getting the steam cleaner out, and well, I now have my blower drying the entire living room carpet.

At this point in my Monday, I'm over caffeinated and out of sorts, but I've accomplished an entire laundry list of things I had initially no intention of doing, besides the carpet cleaning,  like clearing out the pots and pans cupboards for another Goodwill donation. The dining room table is also piled with gifts to be wrapped, awaiting gift boxes to arrive.

All of this, of course, I brought on myself.  For some reason, when things go south, I tend to add the most random issues, only exacerbating the craziness.

But, the bright spot is that the house smells fantastic, the old dog is sound asleep in his kennel, and what I'd hoped to get done, got done.

The cookies and bread, you ask? Oh, please. ☘
