January 25, 2026 Distractions, Dismay, and Damn, It's Cold!

 it's been a few days, so this is somewhat of a garbage can of "stuff".

The painting is done. Touched up and cleaned up. Done. Every wall and ceiling; it only took 2 years. "Only" 2 years, but it was a lot of surfaces.

My heart is very heavy, my anxiety peaks more often, and that nagging sick feeling won't go away. So many I love live in Minnesota, experiencing the nightmare every day. It's so much with which to absorb and deal on a daily basis. My time on social media is substantially shortened to a couple perfunctory check-ins on my friends and my share of reposts. Please let your voice be heard. Protect your mental health.

I shared that Rambo ruptured his back left knee, and his surgery date got pushed way back to February 10, due to a medical emergency by our vet. So, he's getting around okay, but needs help with the up and down. I'm trying to keep him off the hard floor in the kitchen as he's pretty unstable if he slips. He's claimed the sectional as his throne, and even Randy isn't objecting. He just looks so pitiful.

My work computer has slowed to a glacial pace, and you know how that thrills me. 😉  It has an older operating system, including my Quickbooks, so I've upgraded to a newer model and will download the bookkeeping app to a more current one.  All our into is stored on a thumb drive so it should transfer, or should I say, it had better transfer! It's my greatest hope this will be the last I'll have to purchase as all it does is the books, but also has our personal accounts.

We are well into the wrestling season; several miles already in for tournaments and meets, or "scrambles". The wrestling club had a good showing in Estherville yesterday, there is a scramble in Sheldon today for the 7th&8th grade boys, then the E"Hawk Invitational on Thursday. Grand2 is coming into his own and is really fun to watch.  I'm just happy we are able to get to watch him, now that Randy has the freedom to just leave when he wants.

I'm feeling really sorry for the parts of the country experiencing the heavy snows and outages. We have a beautiful covering of white that wasn't hard to move, but oh my, is it cold.  To add to the joy of the freezing temps, we have a glitchy thermostat that keeps dropping to the low 60's at will. We don't mind that if we are gone or asleep, but find ourselves resetting it 2x or more a day.  It could sure be worse.

Time to pull out my E"Hawk gear. Please pray for your country.☘

My family faces something we knew would happen one day, and dreaded; the beginning of losing siblings. This loss is of the second in our birth order, one of only three sisters amidst the horde of boys. April 1, 2025 Nobody's Fool

  April is here. Now may the warm spring days be more and the cold snowy ones a fond memory. There is no need for a drumroll for this topic today. I quit drinking. I have not counted the days, but it's been about a year and a half since. Instead of calling it a recovery, I feel it's better for me to refer to it as a significant life change. Unlike many, I did not have a dramatic event that forced this change. There was no major health problem, behavior faux pas, criminal slip, or intervention. I simply...quit. It was after the fact that I found how positively my life would be impacted. Alcohol had always been a part of my life, from the days Dad would give me a "snort" of his icy beer after work, to being of legal age at 18, always present at every celebration, to becoming a crutch during Covid. April 19, 2025 I Forgive You, I Forgive Me

This is an extremely difficult and painful post, but a necessary part of my personal acceptance and healing. I've had a caring professional encourage me to do so, but I've put it off for too long. First of all, I am not targeting any one person. My use of "you" is a general term. I do take responsibility for letting them make me feel the way I did, and it's taken me so long to come to terms with being happy to just be me, warts and all. So, here goes... I forgive you for making me grow up too fast. Being the firstborn seemed to give so many license to make me more independent that I was truly ready to handle. I grew to be someone who never wanted to depend on anyone but myself. It caused me to push people away, instead of accepting help when it was offered, or affection I didn't feel I deserved.
