August 13, 2026 Rainy Days and Mondays
I may be the only one this happens to, but song titles come to mind in relation to a day's happening.
The rain this morning was a true blessing. So much so, I'm not even mad about not being able to mow! Instead, I'm looking forward to the lawn being restored to all green from the humidity and renewed moisture.
Speaking of the humidity, this brings me to a realization we have made. So many questions resulted from the bright, happy wallpaper having to be removed from the laundry nook in the kitchen. Until recently, I didn't really have an answer to why it failed. Now that I'm facing redoing it, I've reflected on what I may have done wrong so it doesn't happen again.
Looking back, when I was in such a toot to get the kitchen done, the weather was similar to what we are currently experiencing...so very humid. That, in addition to the fresh drywall and paint, made for less than ideal conditions to be hanging paper. I'm convinced it didn't seal to the wall because of the high moisture in the air. Don't forget, I also knocked off a water connection to the washer, spraying me, the floor, and parts of the wall. It was a recipe for disaster that I completely ignored in my haste.
With two new rolls at the ready, I'm exercising all forms of patience and resisting the temptation to repeat an expensive mistake. And so, I wait.
For now, we are delighted to report the shop is done and the bill paid. The old girls Randy loves so much are coming in just often enough to keep him occupied without pressure. We both love that. Have the repeat offenders let up? Ah, no. But, he's come to an understanding with them that if the answer is no, they have to allow him that courtesy if it's something he chooses not to do.
Best of all, football practice has started. We have a freshman linebacker to cheer on this year. Go E'Hawks! ☘
